PRIVATE JOSEPH SEWELL

Joseph Sewell was one of the heroes who died for his country and was killed in action, whose name wasn’t put onto the St Marks Memorial.

Joseph Sewell was born in 1891 to William and Sarah Ann.  He lived at Station Road, Halfway, Mosbrough according to the 1901 census, Joseph was 4 years old.  In the 1911 census Joseph lived at 63 Station Road Halfway Mosbrough.

    

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joseph enlisted into the Army into the 1st/5th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.  He was killed in action on 19 July 1917 at the age of 20.  He is buried in Nieuport Memorial Cemetery, Nieupoort Arrondissement Veurne, West Flanders, Belgium.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joseph was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

  

 

Joseph effects (War Gratuity) would have been given to his father William.
