PRIVATE WILLIAM TAYLOR

William was born in 1875 to William and Mary Taylor, he was born at Halfway, Derbyshire and he lived with his brothers John aged 20 and Henry aged 7 years old in 1881 census he lived in Station Road Halfway, the 1891 census below states William aged 16 working as a Coal Miner.   According to 1901 census at the age of 26 William was married to Emma, he was an assurance super intendant, and lived at Duke Street, Mosborough.

 

When the 1911 census came out William lived with his wife Emma at 37 Cadman Street Mosborough

William enlisted into the ex-Private King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, enlisted Sheffield 11/9/14 age 34 & transferred to Plymouth Short-Service RMLI (Royal Marine Light Infantry), into the Plymouth Bn R.N. Div.  on 16/9/14 ; Plymouth Bn. MEF . His service number was PLY/138(S). He died at the age of 40, he left a wife Emma Taylor, and one son Herbert aged 1 years old, who lived at 93 Duke Street Mosborough Sheffield.

William died on the 3/5/15, he was buried at Pink Farm Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli Turkey.

Names of the soldiers to be presumed buried in this cemetery and whose grave have not been identified.

 

THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT

William would probably have received the 1914/15 Star Medal and his wife might have received The Death Penny also known as The Widows Penny.
