To wipe off a debt incurred as the result of having the church redecorated and repaired, St Mark’s Church Council held a garden party on Wednesday at the residence of Miss Margaret Wells, “Elmwood” Mosbro.

The attendance was small at the opening which was performed by Mr George Kirkham (churchwarden of Eckington Parish Church), who said he was always pleased to assist in functions arranged to augment funds for the funds for the Church.  In introducing Mr Kirkham, the Vicar of Mosbro’ (Rev M Holmes) said the church had a debt of about £20 in connection with the above-mentioned work and that although conditions were not too favourable, he hoped the sum would be cleared and relieve the church of the burden without them touching the normal collections. At the end, the Vicar announced that a total of £20 had been taken, which would clear the debt.
