PRIVATE THOMAS WILKINSON

Thomas Wilkinson was born in 1876 to Thomas and Alice Wilkinson, they lived at South Normanton Derbyshire, with his sister Mary A, his brothers Wilbourne and William Wilkinson.  Thomas was 5 years old according to Ancestry 1981 Census.

 

In 1901 Census shows that Thomas was married to Martha A and he had a 1 year old son called Bernard. They lived at 6 King Street South Normanton, Alfreton., he worked as a Hewer, Coal Miner.

By the time the 1911 census came out, Thomas had a daughter Mary Alice, Clara Agnes and two more sons Thomas and Lloyd George Wilkinson.

 

Thomas enlisted at Mansfield into the Notts and Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment into the 15th / 17th Battalion. His regimental number was 29858.    He died on 19 August 1917 at the age of 40 at France and Flanders.

 

The Rolls of Individuals and Medal index below shows Thomas was entitled to the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

    

Martha would have received the following war gratuity.
