PRIVATE WALTER HEBBLEWHITE

Walter Hebblewhite is one of the 49 heroes whose name is by on St Mark’s Church Cenotaph in Mosborough.  He was born in the year of 1894 to Joel and Elizabeth Hebblewhite, who lived at Saxby Lincoln according to the 1901 census below.

By the time the 1911 census came out Walter was a boarder living with William and Ada Keal, he worked as a Waggoner on a Farm in Saxby.

Walter enlisted on Sheffield and he joined the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, his Regimental No was 28080.

Private Walter Hebblewhite died on 23 December 1917 at the age of 23. He is buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Imperial War Graves Commission form below states that the inscription on his grave says:

 

“Resting in Peace”

 

 

Walter would have received the Victory Medal & the British War Medal.
