PRIVATE WILLIAM JAMES LIDGETT

William is one of the heroes whose name is on the Cenotaph in St Mark’s Church yard.  William James Lidgett was born to Frederick and Edith Lidgett, in Beighton Derbyshire in 1896, he lived at Allan Road Beighton with his parents and brothers Cecil, and Victor, this is according to the 1901 Census below.  The 1911 Census also showed that William lived at Skelton Lane Beighton at the age of 15, he was working as a Colliery Lamp Cleaner above Ground.

       

William enlisted into the 2nd Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, his Service No. was 24639.  William was killed in action on 14 April 1917at the age of 21, he was buried in the Thiepval Memorial France.

 

William was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

War Gratuity for William would have gone to his father Frederick.
