Private John Grant was born to John William and Gertrude Grant on 8 November 1908. In 1911 census showed that John age 2 living at 1 Bridle Style Mosbro with his brothers George, William and his sisters Hannah, and Myra. According to the 1939 census John still lived in Mosborough with his parents, his brothers Leonard, Bernard, and his sisters Hannah and Norah. At that time he was a Bricklayer.
John enlisted into the 1st Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. His service no was 14390421. John died on 16 March 1945 at the age of 36. He was buried at Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar Burma.
