THE LATE MR. C. W. ALDERSON OF KILLAMARSH. C W Lee’s Diary

The Countryside Mourning. Around the grave of Mr C. W. Alderson, whose sudden and accidental death in the hunting field last week, came a grievous shock to the whole countryside, there gathered probably largest concourse of ever seen at a funeral in North-East Derbyshire before.

Nothing could have exceeded the manifestations profound sorrow and sympathy which accompanied die solemn yet simple rites in the Killamarsh Churchyard.

No greater token could have been paid to the universal esteem and affection in which the deceased gentleman was hold than public demonstration of deep feeling which prevailed in the village on Monday. Never was such a funeral seen in Killamarsh, not window but what was draped; every shop was respectfully closed.

Besides the many friends and acquaintances both in the village and surrounding district, it was seen on every hand that Mr Alderson had been universally revered amongst the working class inhabitants of the village which lived.

All around Churchtown the roads crowded with sorrowing villagers.
