MOSBOROUGH. Church Foundation Stone. C W LEE Diary

On Saturday Mrs. Wells, of Eckington Hall, laid the foundation stone of new church at Mosborough, which is to be dedicated to St. Mark.

 

A procession consisting of the Mosborough Church choir, the clergy of the deanery, and the members of the Building Committee was formed at the Endowed Schools, arid proceeded to the site, where hymn was sung and a special service gone through, conducted the Revs E. B. Estcourt, H. E. Ferry, and s. Hare, the clergy of the Parish Church.

 

Mrs. Wells, who was presented with handsome ivory mounted trowel by Mr. Statham, architect, then came forward, and having spread mortar, the stone was lowered to its place, the formal ceremony being completed with beautiful ivory mounted wooden mallet, presented by Messrs. Stevenson, the builders. Then followed the remainder of the service, after which the procession was reformed and returned to the schools in the same order.

 

Among those present at the ceremony besides the clergy were Mr. and the Misses Mary and Kate Wells, Messrs. J. H G. E., and J. H. M. Wells, Eckington Hall; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wells, Elimwood;  Mrs Estcourt and party, Eckington Rectory’; Mrs. Ferry Glebe House, Eckington ; Mr. and Miss Hare. Mosborough; Mrs Hubback, Mrs., Miss, and Mr. Tom Hutton, Ridgeway; Mrs. German Hutton, Newlands, Mrs. Lucas, Dronfield ; Mrs. Geo. Barber, Eckington; Mrs. Mullins, Langwith Rectory; &c.
