PRIVATE FRANK HAYES

Frank Hayes was born in Mosbro, Derbyshire in 1896 to Henry and Ruth Hayes with his brother Harry and sisters Annie, and Ruth Hayes.  They lived on Mosbro Moor according to Ancestry 1901 Census Piece number 3258, Folio 186, page 29.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On the 1911 Census Frank aged 16 lived with his mum, brother and sisters at 8 Station Road Mosbro, Derbyshire.

He followed in his father’s footsteps as a Coal Miner.

Frank joined the 6th (Service) Battalion York and Lancashire regiment, his regimental number was 20009.

Frank was killed in Action on 21 August 1915 at Gallipoli in the Balkan Theatre of War.

He was buried at Helles Memorial Cemetery at Gallipoli Canakkale, Turkey, marked in an unknown grave.
