PRIVATE ARTHUR STATON

Arthur Staton was born / baptised 19 February 1895 to Walter and Sarah Elizabeth Staton in the Parish of Eckington, Derbyshire. At the age of 6 years old, Arthur lived with his parents, his sister Annie and his brother Fred. They lived at 7a Portland Road in the Civil Parish of Pleasley and Ecclesiastical Parish of Shirebrook. According to 1901 Census his father worked as a Coal Hewer below ground. In the 1911 census Arthur had moved to 56 Queen Street, Mosbrough with his parents and brother Fred, and sister Sarah. Arthur worked as a Colliery Pony Driver below ground.

At the age of 18 Arthur Enlisted at Brimington, Derbyshire into the Notts and Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment. 87039. His Regimental number was TF1894 and his rank was a Private. Arthur was in the 1^st/ 6^th Battalion, he served in the 9^th and 17^th battalion and he was killed in action on 29 May 1915.

His place of burial or cremation was at Heuvelland, Arrondisement Ieper, West Flanders (West Vlaanderen) Belgium at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery. Belgium. Row E. Grave 24.
