LANCE CORPORAL SAMUEL FROST

Samuel Frost was born in the year of 1893 to Frederick and Lucy Frost at Mosbro, Derbyshire, in the Civil Parish of Eckington.  He lived with his Brother John and Joseph at 20 Queen Street, Mosbro, according to 1901 census on Ancestry, Piece No 3258, Folio 163, Page No 40 and Household Schedule No. 247.

       

By the time Samuel was 18 years of age he still lived with his parents and sibling brothers John, Joseph and Thomas. 1911 Census showed that they lived at 26 Queen Street Mosbro.  Samuel was a rope lad in the mine.  Registration District No 438, Vessel No 9, and Piece No 21139.

He joined the 11th Battalion Notts & Derby (Sherwood Foresters) regiment on 27/8/1915 and his regimental no was 16121.  He was killed in action on 20 January 1916 at the Royal Irish Rifles Graveyard, Laventie, Departement. du.Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.   Plot 4. Row D. Grave 12.  The inscription on Samuel’s Gravestone says  “GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN”

Samuel was awarded the 1914/15 The Star Medal, The Victoria Medal, The British War Medal and the Death Plaque Award.
