PRIVATE PERCY STANIFORTH

Percy is one of the 49 heroes whose name is on the St Mark’s Church Cenotaph in Mosborough, he was baptised on 11 June 1894 to Henry and Alice Staniforth in Eckington. According to 1901 census Percy aged 6 was at his grandfather’s John Grant aged 68 with his mum Alice aged 33 and Leonard Grant aged 23 at 69 South Street (Pingle) Mosborough.

In 1911 Census Percy aged 16 was at his Uncle Albert’s and Aunty Anne’s at 88 South Street Mosborough. He worked as an apprentice Bricklayer.

   

Percy enlisted in Sheffield in February 1914.

 

Percy went into the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment in the 1st and 7th Battalion.
His regimental number is 307325, formerly 27077, K.O.Y.L.I

Percy was Killed in Action and died on 13 April 1918 at France, Dthpres.
