SERGEANT FRANK RODDY

Frank was born in Eckington Derbyshire, in July 1889 to John and Elizabeth Ann Roddy. Frank was aged 1 in the 1891 census, he lived with his sisters Nellie, Letitia and his brother Willie.  His father was a Railway Wagon worker.

According to 1901 Census Frank lived at Market Street with another sister Eunice.  His father then was a Coal Miner Hewer, his mother had her own greengrocer business.

      

In 1911 Census Frank lived at 20 High Street Mosbro with the Webster family and his wife Mabel Webster, who he married on 9 October 1910 at Eckington, Derbyshire.  Frank was a Coal Miner Hewer at the age of 21.

Frank enlisted in Sheffield and he went into the York and Lancashire Regiment, 2nd & 4th left

(Hallamshire) (T.F.) Battalion at the age of 25 years. His service number was 57597.  Listed left is a copy Frank’s Attestation.

 

On 4 November 1918 in France and Flanders Frank was killed in Action.
