PRIVATE WILLIAM CARRINGTON

William Carrington is one of the 49 killed in action whose name is on the Cenotaph at St Marks Church Mosborough Sheffield S20.   William was born in the year of 1892 in Sutton Bedfordshire to George Carrington of 5 Palmer Street Halfway Sheffield.  According to the 1911 Census he lived with his step brother at 31 New Street, Holbrook Nr Sheffield.  William enlisted in Eckington, he joined the 1st/6th Battalion Sherwood Forester (Notts and Derby) Regiment at the age of 22 years and 2 months, He worked has a Miner. His service no was 240856.

  

Private William Carrington served from February 1915 to June 1919, he died of a heart disease on 22 January 1918 at the age of 26.

William’s sister in law Harriett applied for William’s medals on 23.8.20 in respect of his services.

He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal
