PRIVATE WILLIAM ATTENBOROUGH

William Attenborough was born in Ripley, Yorks in the first quarter in 1897. Ref  7b 522.  The 1911 census show that William aged 16 lived with his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Attenborough, his brothers Arthur, Thomas Henry, Reuben, Horace and Harold.  Also his sisters Winifred and Edna. William was a brickyard labourer, same as his father and younger brother Arthur.

Reference No. 438, District Eckington, Vessel 9.  Piece 21139. according to Ancestry.No census found for 1901 on ancestry.

William enlisted into the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry 7th Battalion.  His regimental number was 19811. He entered the Theatre of War in France on 5 October 1915.  He served in the 2nd and 4th Battalion and was killed in Action on 20th July 1918.

William is buried at Bouilly Cross Roads Military Cemetery. Bouilly, Departement de l’Aube, Champagne-Ardenne, France  Plot: I.B.16.
