WHITE CITY CEMETERY

Private Lewis Heeds – Notts and Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment 11th Battalion.   Regimental Number 16120 – Died 19 October 1915    Buried     WHITE CITY CEMETERY, BOIS GRENIER Nord, France.  Memorial reference: A. 8.

 

The Inscription on his grave stone says:

“GONE FROM OUR HOME BUT NOT FROM OUR HEARTS”

 

Bois-Grenier is a village about 4 kilometres south of Armentieres. The Cemetery is south of the village, on the west side of the road (D22) to Radinghem.

 

White City Cemetery was used by fighting units from October 1914 to December 1915 when it was closed. The cemetery contains 92 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, nine of them unidentified, and three German graves. The cemetery was designed by Sir Herbert Baker.
