PRIVATE WILFRED FIELDS

The 1901 Census shows Wilfred Fields at the age of 2 at his grandparents with his mother Annie E Fields on the day the form was completed at 143 Bernard Street, Attercliffe. His was born in 1898 in Sheffield.  According to the 1911 Census Wilfred lived at 19 William Street, Eckington with his mum and Step father William Radford, he was aged 12.

Wilfred enlisted into the Training Reserve Battalion, Yorks and Lancs Regiment on 7 February 1917 at Pontefract, his Regimental  No was 78270  He was aged 19 years old and he worked has a Collier, he then lived at 27 Mosbro Moor Mosbro.

 

Wilfred was in the 2nd & 15th Battalion in the Durham Light Infantry and Wilfred was killed in action on 21 March 1918 at France and Flanders.  He was buried at Serre Road Cemetery No 2. Beaumont Hamel, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France.

Wilfred was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal as the Roll of Individuals stated below:

                              

 

The form below states the War Gratuity that Mrs. A. E. Radford (formerly Fields), of 27, Mosborough Moor, Mosborough, Sheffield, Wilfred’s mum received.
