LANCE CORPORAL GEORGE GARDINER

George Gardiner was born in 1899 to Thomas and Sarah Gardiner. In the 1911 Census , it states that George lived at 35 Circular Road, Larne Co. Antrim with his family consisting of his parents, his sisters Jane 23, Maggie 16 and his brothers John 22, Andrew 20, Thomas 18, Allen 14 Robert 11 and Frank aged 9.

 

George enlisted into the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, Princess Victoria’s, his service no was 42418 and previous units 2 R. Ir. Rif. 1260 Pte, 1 R. Ir. Fus. 42418.

 

George died on 1 October 1918, he was buried at Dadizeele New British Cemetery, West Vlaanderen Belgium.

 

The Inscription on George’s grave says:

“REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS”

 

The Roll of Individuals listed below states that George was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
