PRIVATE RICHARD SMITH

Richard was born in 1879 to Richard and Jane Smith, he was born at Stickney Lincolnshire in the Civil Parish of Handsworth Woodhouse.  He lived with his brothers Frederick, Sydney, Frank and his sister Ada Jane Smith.  1891 census shows Richard at 12 years old and still living at Stickney.  In 1901 Richard was a Bricklayers Labourer and was living at Sheffield Road Woodhouse.

     

Richard enlisted at Sheffield into the 4th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, Service No. 4841

and then transferred into the Labour Corps 194658.

 

Richard died on 6 July 1918 aged 39 years old, he died at home and was buried in Woodhouse Cemetery, Sheffield Metropolitan Borough of Sheffield South Yorkshire.
