PRIVATE JOHN KEETON

John Keeton is one of the 49 causalities who died in World War 1, whose name is on the Cenotaph in St Marks Church Mosborough.  According to 1901 Census John lived with his parents Joseph and Martha Keeton, his brother Henry who was 15 years old and his sisters Ellen 10, plus Jane aged 6.  John himself was 4 years old and was born in 1897 at Pilsley, Derbyshire, in the Civil Parish of North Wingfield.

 

1911 Census stated that John aged 14 lived at 49 Rupert Street, Pilsley Derbyshire with his parents and sister Jane Keeton. He worked has a coal miner below ground.

 

 

John at the age of 18 enlisted at Clay Cross Derbyshire into the Notts and Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment 10th Battalion.   His Regiment number was 117193.

 

 

 

Private John Keeton died on 18 September 1918 at the age of 21.

He died at Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, Haucourt Departement du Pas de-Calais, France.  Final resting place unknown. Name listed on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Panel 7.  Memorial ID 56668696.
