Philip Staton

Committee chair

Philip Staton is a founding member of Mosborough History Meeting Group. He was born in Poolsbrook Derbyshire but raised on High Street, Mosborough and still lives there today. He attended Mosborough Primary School, Westfield lower and upper School and Sheffield College.  Philip worked for over 40 years in retail management and sales, working at Fine Fare, Argyle Foods  Melias ,  Shentalls  ,Presto, Lo-Cost, Shoppers Paradise, Pioneer, Sommerfields, Cooperative Pioneer, Cooperative.  Also Hair Tools Sales agent (Miraki-TRI-Mitzutani ).

Past President of Eckington & District Rotary Club,  Volunteer for Sheffield Manor Community Transport,  Midas licence.  M.P.H.C  &  H.S.C plus a Committee Member.  Formally a Volunteer Volunteering Advisor for Voluntary Action Sheffield  (VAS ).  He also sits on numerous other age and health related groups, including research in Sheffield University, Healthwatch and Ignite Imaginations as we as local community groups.

My Mosborough Family History stretches back to at least the late 1700s so far, they include Newsagents, Miners, Sickle Scythe makers, Alehouse keepers, Grocers, Grave diggers, Sportsmen, Musical  Professor and St Marks Church Clock Committee.

I  have a personal collection of researched local histories and pictures, plus  I am researching St Marks WWII memorial listings.

In 2016 Philip helped form Mosborough History Meeting Group, he his passionate about  preserving local  history especially memories and stories. Philip is now retired.
