Leonard died on 30th March 1943 at the age of 20 years old. He was married to Iris L Shaw. He is buried at Kiel War Cemetery Germany, Area Kiel Schleswig-Holstein. Reference 4.J.16.
Inscription says: “IN LOVING MEMORY OF LEONARD WHO DIED FOR HIS COUNTRY. ALWAYS LOVED AND REMEMBERED”

Operations was Berlin 329 aircraft, 21 losses) 6.4% in poor weather conditions with significant icing problems. PFF marking was inaccurate and the main force arrived late and bombing was largely ineffective.
Shot down by a night-fighter and crashed between Gaushorn and Welmbttel two villages 4 km and 3 km respectively SW of Tellingstedt.
